“I Am Because We Are” The Power of Shared Faith

In this homily, we explore the Zulu word Ubuntu “I am because we are” and how it beautifully reflects the gospel story of the paralyzed man healed by Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, not just his, He forgave and healed. This shows us that our faith is never private or isolated; it’s shaped, strengthened, and even extended through others.

From baptism to community prayer, we see that faith grows in relationship our belief impacts others, and theirs impacts us. The communion of saints and the forgiveness of sins are bound together. As we approach All Saints’ Day, we’re reminded: our corporate faith has the power to bring healing, forgiveness, and life.
