The Twenty First Sunday after Trinity

Nov 9, 2025    The Most Rev. Dr. Ray Sutton

This homily teaches the power of God’s name in Holy Baptism. Scripture says that God comes to the place where He puts His name and He brings His blessing with Him. Jesus commands the Church to place the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit on a person during baptism, so He meets that person with His real presence. Jesus also calls children to come to Him so that He may bless them. When a child receives God’s name in baptism, the child belongs to Him and joins His covenant family. God stays with that child from that moment forward and invites her to grow in faith and trust. A Christian song reminds us that God’s name carries His presence, His strength, and His compassion. His name does not sit on us as a label. His name brings His life and becomes our true refuge.
